Applications for our online King’s College London Medicine and Dentistry Lecture Series 2025 are now open! We have supported almost 10,000 students since we introduced our free programme four years ago (see our testimonies below).
This programme is for students across the UK in Year 11, 12, and 13 interested in becoming a doctor or dentist.
Over the course of the programme, students will hear from a wide variety of speakers to help build their understanding of the opportunities and challenges of being a doctor and dentist, as well as guidance on the application process. Last year’s lectures included the following:
- Medical and dental specialties: cardiology, oral surgery, renal transplant, and many more!
- Q&A’s each week with current medical and dental students.
- Support with the application process: UCAT, personal statements, and interviews.
- Q&A with admissions colleagues in the school of medicine at KCL, UCL, St George’s, Queen Mary, Brunel, and Imperial.
Most importantly, participants will become part of a community of like-minded students all interested in applying to medicine and dentistry and finding out what being a doctor and dentist really entails!
Lectures will be held on Tuesday evenings between 6:00 – 7:30pm. Our first lecture will be on Tuesday 4 February.
The deadline is Friday 10 January.
Here’s what students had to say about the 2024 programme:
- Mary, year 12 student from Nottingham: “Go for it! Where I'm from, there aren’t a lot of opportunities and stumbling upon this lecture series is gold dust. It is the most up-to-date guide to land a career in medicine, there is no area which they haven't scrutinised and made simple for us students.”
- Reicela, year 11 student from Lewes: “It’s been a pleasure to be a part of these series. Opened up my eyes to the broad pathways in medicine and dentistry and actually got to hear from professionals and students themselves who shared their lovely stories and their experiences. Definitely sign up, so worth it. I'm going to miss these lectures :)”
- Dawid, year 12 student from Southampton: “Before the programme, I was still somewhat hesitant about whether medicine was right for me. Getting to hear from students at KCL and consultants in their respective fields about their experiences and life lessons really appealed to me and encouraged me to do additional research and to apply to medicine, as the things they discussed really interested me. I now feel more confident in applying for it at university and I now have a somewhat clearer idea in mind about the types of specialties after med school that would fit my preferences.”
- Angelo, year 11 student from Hillingdon: “The programme gives you invaluable experience that (as far as I am aware) is not available anywhere else within the country, and it's almost like a map showing you the many paths you can go down and also preparing you on your way.”
- Eleanor, year 12 student from Darlington: “Shown me what a career in medicine truly entails. I can better understand the ups and downs of this career, and feel confident, knowing there are so many other students willing to share their experiences with aspiring students.”
- Rania, year 12 student from Surrey: “The lecture series really helped solidify my decision about studying dentistry because I got to see different specialities in dentistry and I found particular sectors I was interested in, encouraging me to do further research around dentistry. I also got support for the university application process showing me how it is possible to pursue dentistry and easing my worries.”
- Saheba, year 12 student from Rochdale: “I think it has definitely cemented my desire to pursue medicine as a career as I was able to listen to the accounts of various people who were all in different parts of their journey. It was a lovely community to be a part of!! Additionally, it was nice to see what KCL does for its students and the broad range of opportunities students have whilst they're at King’s.”
- Alexander, year 13 student from Staffordshire: “All lecturers and guests in the lecture series don’t seem to shy away from when times are tough and purposefully aim to make you aware of the challenges you set to face whilst also reminding you of the reward. For example, helping your local community or making a difference to someone’s life which most certainty are worth it”.
To be eligible for the programme, students must currently be attending a state school. If the school is non-selective, then students are automatically eligible to take part in the programme. For students studying at a state selective school, they must meet one of our widening participation criteria. For full details, please see the application form.
