Headteacher Foreword
As we approach the end of Term 5, I am delighted to reflect on the numerous achievements and exciting activities that have taken place within our school community.
Firstly, our Italy trip was a resounding success. Students not only experienced the rich cultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes of Italy but also engaged in invaluable educational activities that broadened their horizons and deepened their appreciation for the geography and history of the region. Their exemplary conduct and enthusiasm were a credit to our school.
Another highlight was our visit to the London theatre, where geography students were captivated by a spectacular performance. These cultural excursions are vital in nurturing a love for the arts, helping students to engage further with the subject curriculum and providing our students with inspiring experiences beyond the classroom.
Looking ahead, we are eagerly anticipating the Giant Orchestra Day. This event promises to be a celebration of music, bringing together talented young musicians from many primary and secondary schools to perform as one grand ensemble. It’s an opportunity for our students to work with other students and adults to showcase their hard work and passion for music.
We have a new parent governor who brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the role. Their involvement will undoubtedly enrich our school governance and contribute to our ongoing development.
Celebrating individual achievements, I would like to extend huge congratulations to Mrs Carpenter for completing the London Marathon. Her dedication and perseverance are truly inspiring. Similarly, Mr Whiting completed the Isle of Wight Challenge and was equally inspiring.
Our students continue to shine in diverse fields. Barnaby Newman’s recent success in fishing is commendable, showcasing his skill and dedication to the sport. Additionally, there is some outstanding artwork in this newsletter, reflecting the students' creativity and artistic talents.
As we conclude another vibrant and fulfilling term, I want to thank all our staff, students, and parents for their unwavering support and commitment. Together, we create a nurturing and dynamic environment where every student can thrive.
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable break.
Mr N M Law

Carre's Grammar School Local Governance Tier
The recent call-out for nominations for a Parent Governor drew one candidate - Bob Davies. This means that no ballot was necessary and Bob therefore stands duly elected to the post with immediate effect. Congratulations to Bob! We are looking forward to him attending his first LGT meeting very soon.
At the same time, Members have appointed two new Trustees, Richard Eaton and Simon Enstone, who have joined the Robert Carre Trust Board also with immediate effect. Simon has previously been a Community Governor on the Carre's Local Governance Tier since September 2022.
Simon's appointment as a Trustee leaves a vacancy for a Community Governor - if you know of anyone who may be interested in this role, please contact me at debbie.scott@robertcarretrust.uk.

Giant Orchestra Day
Tuesday 2 July
Carre’s Grammar School
Booking is now open for this year’s Giant Orchestra Day.
We will be joined by musicians from schools and other musical groups from the local area, getting together to play in one Giant Orchestra.
This year we will be working on four pieces of music. Two are from the BBC 10 Pieces project: Ron Grainer/Delia Derbyshire’s – Dr Who Theme and Finlandia by Sibelius. The other two pieces will be ‘I Feel Good’ by James Brown and a movement from a Symphony written by one of our own Y10 students, Raahil Ejaz.
If you play an instrument and would like to be involved in this exciting event, please scan the QR code or contact Carre's for a link to the form.
We would like to invite your son/daughter to participate in our ‘Giant Orchestra’ Music Day to be held at Carre’s Grammar School on Tuesday 2 July. Students will need to arrive at Carre’s Grammar School for a 9.15am start (please liaise with your school as some schools intend to bring their students together). The event will finish with a reception at 2.40pm and a concert between 3 and 3.30pm to which you are all invited.
We hope that the day will be fun and inspirational for all of our instrumentalists; in previous years we had over 200 musicians who have given fantastic performances at the end of the day. The event will enable your son/daughter to work with students from Carre’s and several other local primary and secondary schools, giving them a chance to meet other children with similar interests, who are working at a range of levels. The event is also supported by teachers from Lincolnshire Music Service, members of the RAF Auxiliary Band and Sleaford Concert Band.
During the day, the students will be rehearsing in one huge orchestra. They will also have the opportunity to participate in a sports activity session. We will be working on four pieces of music. Two pieces are from the BBC 10 Pieces project: Ron Grainer/Delia Derbyshire’s theme to ‘Dr Who’ and Sibelius’ ‘Finlandia’. We will also be playing ‘I Feel Good’ by James Brown and a movement of a symphony composed by one of our own Year 10 students, Raahil Ejaz.
In the afternoon we will focus on rehearsing for the ‘Grand Finale’ concert with all students performing together. I hope that you will be able to join us for this performance. Refreshments for those wishing to attend the concert will be available in our school canteen from 2.40pm.
Students will be able to purchase a snack (fruit, biscuit and soft drink) at break time at a cost of £1.80, but could I please request that students bring packed lunches for the middle of the day. Students will also be able to engage in a sports activity for a mid-day break.
For further details and to book your son/daughter on to the event, please contact Carre's Grammar School or scan the QR code above.
We will liaise with your child’s school so that they know that they will be attending. Forms should be completed as soon as possible.
Music for your child to learn and practice in advance of the day will be available for you to download by the end of May (contact Carre's).
Families/brothers and sisters can sign up – it doesn’t just have to be Carre's Grammar School students!
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you on 2 July.

Following on from Slovenia in 2022 and Portugal in 2023, Carre's student Barnaby Newman has been selected to represent his country in the u15 squad in the Coarse Fishing World Championships in Serbia in August.
As well as Barnaby, his brother Josh (a former Carre's student) was selected for the u25 four man squad.
This is the first time in angling history that two brothers have both represented their country for three consecutive years.
Great achievement Barnaby and Josh - well done!

6th Form Geography - Trip to the Bay of Naples, Italy
During the February half-term, Mrs Brook and Mr Wilson took a group of Year 12 and 13 Geographers to the Bay of Naples, Italy.
Day 1:
After an early flight to Naples, we travelled down the coast to Sorrento - a beautiful town on the Amalfi Coast. After lunch, we took a leisurely stroll around Sorrento to orientate ourselves. The students then had some free time to settle in and explore.
Day 2:
On our first full day in Italy, we climbed the dormant volcano, Mt Vesuvius. The views into the crater were incredible - we even managed to spot some steam vents. We were extremely lucky as we were the last group allowed to climb the volcano due to the weather! We also experienced a tour of a local gelato factory and even experienced a pizza making class (with folk dancing!).
Day 3:
Day 3 was dedicated to seeing in real life, the effects of the historical eruption of Vesuvius. With the help of our extremely knowledgeable guide, Laura, we explored the archaeological sites of both Herculaneum and Pompeii. The level of detail from Roman times that has been preserved in these towns is awe-inspiring. We finished the day back at our hotel with a very tense and competitive quiz!
Day 4:
On our final day in Italy, we travelled into the medieval centre of the city of Naples. We had a guided tour of the underground network that is hidden beneath the city. It was amazing to learn more about how this network has been used over time. After lunch in an Italian square, we made our way back to Naples airport.
Overall, the trip was an absolute delight to run. All the students were appreciative, respectful, and seemed to have a fantastic time!

In April, Mrs Brook, Ms Chaddock and Mr Wilson took a group of Sixth Form Geographers to London to see the award-winning British musical, Standing at the Sky's Edge. The musical is set in Sheffield on the iconic brutalist housing estate, Park Hill. This estate has a fascinating history and is used as a case study in the Urban Regeneration unit of the A-Level Geography course.
Watching the musical enabled us to see how perceptions of the estate have changed over time, as well as the impact of key themes such as deindustrialisation and regeneration.
As well as going to see the show, students also had some free time to buy dinner in the beautiful Covent Garden area.
Overall, it was an amazing experience to see a critically acclaimed piece of theatre and will certainly have added to the students' knowledge and understanding of Park Hill.

If your son/daughter cycles to school:
Please ensure they lock their bike to the metal bars in the cycle compound.
The main gate to the compound is locked during the day but not overnight.
